John's father was Thomas [1858-TheMeen,Plots 25&26] Gordon and his mother was Catherine Carmichael. He had four brothers and a sister, named Thomas, George, Robert, James and Nancy.  He died at the age of 63 on April 10th, 1869 in Lislea.

  Letters of Administration of the personal estate of John Gordon late of Lislea County Londonderry Farmer a Widower deceased who died 11 April 1869 at same place were granted at Londonderry to James Gordon of Lislea (Kilrea) aforesaid Farmer the Son and one of the next of kin of said deceased.

• General Notes

  The gravestone which Margaret Turner insists is on our grandfather's grave in 1st Kilrea Presbyterian Church has a Robert John, died April 1856, aged 9, son of John Gordon. The father of the only Robert John (and he was born in Dec 1846) is called John, so this must be my GGGrandfather.
  
  His address is given as Kilrea in his marriage entry although his father's address is given as Lislea and all his childrens baptism entries have him as living in Lislea.
  
  A JOHN Gordon was mentioned in the 1831 Census but this man is probably too young - he would only be 25.  The John in the census lived in a household of four males and three females. 
  
  John Gordon held Plots 20 and 21 in Lislea in the Griffiths Valuation, Plot 20 consisting of 18/0/0 arps and Plot 21 consisting of 5/3/0 arps.  He lived in Hse 20a while Hse 20b was unoccupied.  Plot 20 contains the area known as the Meen and is separated from Plot 21 by Plot 22.  Plot 23 is carved out of Plot 20.
  
  GVRBs:
  - John Gordon scored out of Plots 20 & 21 to Reps in 1870.  reps scored out to James, with John in brackets) in 1874.  The name in brackets is to distinguish this James from another James.  This fits with the death of John Gordon in 1869 and the property passing to his son, James, my great grandfather.
  - Buildings rate increased from 10 shillings to 25 shillings in 1892, suggesting a new house was built
  - No change til the end of the book in 1929.
