Richard was born on January 12th, 1873. Richard's father was John [Cullycapple] Boyd and his mother was Jane McAlister.  His paternal grandparents were Kennedy [Killeague] Boyd and Mary Hunter. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Kennedy, John, Alexander, Alfred, Margaret, Mary and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.
