Catherine was born in 1851 in Paisley.1 2 Catherine's father was Peter Stalker and her mother was Hellen Hamilton. Her paternal grandparents were John Stalker and Margaret Reid; her maternal grandparents were Hugh Hamilton and Catherine Ferguson. She had a sister named Maggie.
