Margaret's father was William Ross and her mother was Sarah Morrison.  Her paternal grandparents were Donald Ross and Ann Naismith; her maternal grandparents were James Morrison and Catherine Main. She had five brothers and a sister, named William, James, Ninian, Ninian, Robert and Catherine.  She was the third oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 34 in 1897 in St. Rollox.
