Maryann was born in 1854 in Duffus.1   Maryann's father was Peter Rennie and her mother was Mary Ann Wood.  Her paternal grandparents were James Rennie and Primrose Leal. She had a brother and a sister, named James and Elshie.  She was the second oldest of the three children.  She died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia, pneumonia, 12 days, at the age of 23 on May 8th, 1877 in Glasgow.2
