James' father was Peter Rennie and his mother was Mary Ann Wood.  His paternal grandparents were James Rennie and Primrose Leal. He had two sisters named Elshie and Maryann.  He was the youngest of the three children.  He died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia, pneumonia, 6 days, at the age of 35 on November 12th, 1892 in Kelvin.^2 3
