David was born in April 1838 in Dundee.1  David's father was Alexander Rennie and his mother was Janet Ross.  His paternal grandparents were James Rennie and Janet Stronach; his maternal grandparents were James Ross and <Unknown>. He had a brother and two sisters, named James, Jessie and Euphemia.  He was the oldest of the four children. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named Peter and Anne.  He died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia, broncho-pneumonia, duration 7 months, at the age of 63 on May 11th, 1901 in Glasgow.2
