Andrew's father was John McPherson and his mother was Margaret Rennie.  His maternal grandparents were David Rennie and Agnes Miller. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Donald, David, Alexander, John, James, Margaret, Agnes and Mary.  He was the third youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 1 in 1882 in Kelvin.
