Donaldina's father was Donald McLean and her mother was Janet Marshall McLellan. Her maternal grandparents were John McLellan and Agnes Turner. She had three brothers and four sisters, named Richard, James, Donald, Agnes, Janne Eliza, Grace and Agnes. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 76 in 1953 in Glasgow.
