Margaret was born on May 6th, 1797 in West Calder.1 2  Margaret's father was William Gowans and her mother was Grizzel Barclay. She had a sister named Grace.  She was the older of the two children.  She died at the age of 78 on April 22nd, 1876 in Uphall.  She was buried in Broxburn.3
