Thomas' father was David Bone and his mother was Margaret Smith.  His paternal grandparents were James Bone and Janet Duncan. He had five brothers and two sisters, named James, David, William, John, Alexander, Margaret and Elspeth.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 66 in 1869 in Tradeston.
