Jane was born on July 12th, 1856 in Wilkesport, Lambton County, Ontario, Canada.  Jane's father was Simeon SPOONER and her mother was Elizabeth SMYTHE. She had four brothers and a sister, named Cornelius, James, Henry, Alexander and Elizabeth.  She was the third oldest of the six children. She had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named George, Sarah, Clarinda, Emily, Margaret and Pearl.
