  In a letter, James Baines (owner) provides a glowing testimony on Black Ball Line letterhead.

Joseph's father was William BROWN and his mother was Mary Elizabeth CLEUGH (CLOUGH~PARKER). His paternal grandparents were Joseph BROWN and Eleanor STAINTHORP. He had a brother named William. He was the older of the two children.
