Phineas Paxton was born on October 18th, 1798.  Phineas Paxton's father was William Marshall Sr and his mother was Mary C Beans Bane Banes.  His paternal grandparents were James Marshall and Jane Lindsey; his maternal grandparents were John Beans Bane Burns Banes and Elizabeth Paxton Shaw. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Jane "Creative Jane", James M, William, John, Elizabeth and Hester Lemon Layman.  He was the fifth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 63 on June 11th, 1862.
