Jane was born in 1836 in Staffordshire.1   Jane's father was John Lowndes and her mother was Mary Dawson.  Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Dawson and Charlotte Dawson. She had three brothers and two sisters, named George, John, Henry, Fanny and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 66 on June 5th, 1902 in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.1
