Kennedy was born on September 12th, 1823 in White, Tennessee, USA.1 Kennedy's father was William Poteet and his mother was Sarah Cooper. His paternal grandparents were William Poteet and Keziah Maybe Detheridge; his maternal grandparents were Nathaniel Cooper and Christiana Hughes. He had three brothers and a sister, named Pleasant, Thomas, Samuel and Christene. He was the third oldest of the five children.-
