George W. PAYTON 
George W. was born on July 28th, 1857 in Jackson Township, Putnam Co., Indiana.1 George W.'s father was William PAYTON. His paternal grandparents were Anthony PAYTON and Margaret WALLINGFORD. He had five brothers and nine sisters, named Anthony, Daniel, John William, Charles Franklin, Harvey D., Margaret E., Sarah E., Mary Field, Emmaline Rhoda, Eveline, Julia Ann, Martha J., Minnie Clay and Amanda Florence. He was the seventh youngest of the fifteen children. He died at the age of 75 on December 15th, 1932 in Montgomery Co., Indiana.2 General Notes

Crawfordsville Daily Journal Nov 4, 1903: "New Firm - It has been known to a few of the intimate friends for some time that GW PEYTON, the general agent of the John Hancock Life Insurance Company and for Preferred Accident Company was contemplating some assistance in his work. By strict integrity and courteous treatment Mr. Peyton has built up the business to such proportions in this and adjoining counties that he could not look after it in all its details and take proper care of himself. JC RUTTER, a prominent teacher of Parke County is the lucky man selected by Mr. Peyton to become his partner in his work and we congratulate him on getting in with so well established a man as Mr. Peyton. Mr. Rutter is a nice looking young man and comes well recommended and if he has the ability to make friends and hold them that his partner has, there will be no question about the success of the new firm. We are glad to welcome such men as citizens of the Hoosier Athens and wish the new firm the success it deserves."
