John was born in 1519 in Ollantigh, Par, Wye, Kent, England.1 John's father was Sir William Kempe and his mother was Eleanor Browne. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Kempe and Emeline Chiche; his maternal grandparents were Sir Robert Browne and Mary Malet. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, Anthony, Edward, Francis, Margaret, Emeline, Cecilia, Faith and Mary. He was the third oldest of the ten children.-
