John was born in February 1794 and his baptism took place on May 17th, 1795 in North Bradley.1  John's father was Salathiel  Sumption and his mother was Mary Harford.  His paternal grandparents were Salathiel Sumption and Elizabeth Sargent; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Harford and Eleanor Dix. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Salathiel, Salathiel, Joseph, Joseph, Thomas, Elizabeth, Jenny, Mary and Elizabeth.
