Joseph's baptism took place on March 26th, 1775 in North Bradley.1  Joseph's father was Joseph Butcher and his mother was Elizabeth Butcher.  His paternal grandparents were Joseph Butcher and Jane Silverthorne; his maternal grandparents were Robert Butcher Jun. and Elizabeth Minty. He had two sisters named Mary and Elizabeth.
