Clara's father was Samuel Boileau Goad and her mother was Emma Gordon Davidson. Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Thomas Goad and Jane M Boileau. She had two brothers and a sister, named Horatio, Frederick and Anna. She was the second oldest of the four children.
