James was born in 1797 and his baptism took place on May 21st, 1797 in St Matthew`s Church, Hayfield.1  James' father was Peter Turner and his mother was Nanny Hadfield.  His paternal grandparents were Edward Turner and Leah. He had two brothers and a sister, named Peter, John and Sarah.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
