William was born in 1817. William's father was Richard Pinchin and his mother was Eleanor Mitchell.  His maternal grandparents were Thomas Mitchell and Betty dJoshua Beaven. He had two brothers and three sisters, named John, Richard, Ann, Jane and Emma.  He was the oldest of the six children.
