He died at the age of 78 on September 1st, 1950 in Brisbane General Hospital, Brisbane, Qld. The funeral took place on September 2nd, 1950 in Funeral Chapel, 17 Young Street, South Brisbane, Qld and was arranged by John Hislop & Sons - Funeral Directors. "OBITUARY
Mr. Fletcher Young, a former inspector of mines, who spent 33 years of his official life in North Queensland, and was a familiar figure on mining fields from Rockhampton to Croydon, passed away recently. Mr. Young, who was the first graduate of the Charters Towers School of Mines, was appointed assistant inspector of mines at Croydon in 1907. He went to Chillagoe, in 1911 and was transferred to the Cloncurry mining district in 1913 where he served for 24 years. Then he went to Rockhampton where he was stationed when he retired from the Public Service in 1939 and where he continued to reside up to the time of his death. Mr. Young was 78 and is survived by Mrs. Young, of Hunter Street, Rockhampton, three sons and one daughter."

"Early History of Fassifern...
- The Fletcher and Young families took up land at The White Swamp area of South Queensland, about 1870, when this still was the only road to Ipswich, from New South Wales.
ON FOOT TO IPSWICH The late Edward Young (Senior), at that period had no horse handy, and as it was necessary for him to reach Ipswich on a certain day, he ran and walked the whole way. Leaving The White Swamp just before daylight he was in Ipswich before sundown. The late George Fletcher, then a lad of 15 years took a bullock dray loaded with potatoes along this route, to Ipswich. Moorgerah Homestead was the first dwelling at that time from The White Swamp. This was no mean feat for a lad alone."

"PRESENTATION TO MR FLETCHER YOUNG.
Mr Fletcher Young, District Inspector of Mines, who has retired from the Public Service on account of reaching the age limit, received a presentation from his fellow officers yesterday. The presentation was made by the District Government Geologist (Mr J. H. Reid) who extended to Mr Young the best wishes of the staff. Mr Young has served for more than 30 years in the Mines Department, 24 of which were spent at Cloncurry. Mr O. Carlson, of Cloncurry, will succeed Mr Young at Rockhampton."
