Robert was born on April 25th, 1896.  Robert's father was William Arthur Harris and his mother was Elizabeth Maria Cornelia Jacoba Martens.  His paternal grandparents were John William Harris and Rachel Bradley. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Aubrey, Redvers, Kathleen, Isabel and Vera.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
