Petrus Joannes was born on December 21st, 1858 in Lummen.  Petrus Joannes' father was Joseph Vanderheyden and his mother was Catherina Vanvelck.  He had a brother and four sisters, named François Casimir, Maria Octavie, Emelia Sophie, Marie Henriette and Maria.  He was the youngest of the six children.
