Thomas was born in 1686 and his baptism took place on November 19th, 1686 in Beringen.1   Thomas' father was Egide Elens and his mother was Marie Catherine Wendelen.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Elens and Agnès (Anna) Gaethofs.  He had three brothers and two sisters, named Henricus, Jean Nicolas, Egide François, Marie Agnes and Agnes.
