Carel Hendrik was born in 1815 in Swellendam, South Africa.  Carel Hendrik's father was Johannes Stephanus Fourie and his mother was Cornelia Margaretha Oosthuizen. He had seven brothers and six sisters, named Stephanus Johannes Petrus Jacobus, Johannes Marcus, Johannes Stephanus, Louis Petrus, Andries Jonathan, Marcus Marthinus, David Hermanus Hendrik, Maria Cornelia Margaretha, Helena Geertruy, Anna Jacoba, Johanna Jacoba Petronella, Hendrika Margaretha Aletta and Hester Dorothea.  He was the second youngest of the fourteen children.  He died at the age of 48 on June 24th, 1863.
