John was born in 1836 in Derby England.  John's father was William Mason and his mother was Eliza Turner.  His maternal grandfather is <Unknown> and his maternal grandmother was Elizabeth Turner. He had a brother and a sister, named Thomas and Mary.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had a half-brother named Herbert.  He died at the age of 55 on November 19th, 1891 in Auckland New Zealand.
