Irene Evelyn Carlton Bowder

Irene was born on July 29th, 1892 delivered by Ferozepore, India. Irene's father was William Edmund Bowder and her mother was Evelyn Todd. Her paternal grandparents were Charles Bowder and Emma Green; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Todd and Louisa Johnstone. She had a brother and a sister, named Hugh and Marie. She was the oldest of the three children. She died in South Africa.

  Came to SA in 1922.
  India and SA tennis champion. In 1922 she was S England champion. She was SA singles champion in 1923, 24 & 25. In 1927 she won the French women's doubles championship with Bobby Heine. She also played in the singles final but lost two Suzanne Lenglan. Bobby and Irene reached the Wimbledon Finals.
  Paid for William Glass to come to SA for a visit, but he landed up staying.
