Amelia, known as Milly, was born in 1735 in Virginia, USA.  Milly's father was William (Billy) Henry Mills and her mother was Mary Lavender Walton.  Her paternal grandparents were Gilbert Mills and Margaret Ashmore. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Ambrose, William, Jesse, Sarah, Elizabeth, Miley and Anna.  She was the eighth oldest of the nine children.
