Thomas of was born on January 7th, 1355 in Woodstock Palace, Oxfordshire, England.1 Thomas of's father was Edward Iii Plantagenet King of England and his mother was Phillipa De Hainaut. His paternal grandparents were Edward Ii King of England and Isobella (Queen Consort) of France; his maternal grandparents were William Iii Lebon Comte Dehainaut and Jeanne Countess Dehainault Devalois. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Edward Prince of Wales of, Duke of Clarance Lionel of, Duke of Lancaster John of, 1st Duke of York Edmund of, Margaret of and Joan of. He was the second youngest of the seven children. He had a half-brother named Edmund 1st Duke of York. He died at the age of 42 on September 8th, 1397 in Prince's Inn, Calais, France (Murdered).General Notes
Thomas of Woodstock, Duke of Gloucester was born on 7 January 1355 in Woodstock Palace, Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England. He was the son of Edward III, King of England and Philippe de Hainaut.
He married Lady Eleanor de Bohun, daughter of Humphrey de Bohun, 11th Earl of Hereford and Joan FitzAlan, between 1374 and 1376.
He died on 8 September 1397 at age 42 in Prince's Inn, Calais, France, murdered, probably on the orders of King Richard II. He was buried in Collegiate Church of the Holy Trinity, Pleshy, Essex, England. He was buried in Westminster Abbey, Westminster, London, England.
Thomas of Woodstock, Duke of Gloucester gained the title of Earl of Buckingham on 16 July 1377. He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) between April 1380 and April 1381. Through his marriage, Thomas of Woodstock, Duke of Gloucester was styled as Earl of Essex on 22 June 1380. He was created Duke of Gloucester on 6 August 1385.
