Walter was born about 1037 in Windsor, England.1   Walter's father was Baron Dominus Otho de Windsor and his mother was <Unknown>.  His paternal grandparents were Lord Otterus di Gherardini of Tuscany and <Unknown>.  He was an only child.  He died in 1103 in Carew Castle, Wales.1

They had six sons and two daughters, named Geraldus, William, Walter, Robert, Maurice, Reinal, Hawise and Delicia.
