Horace Wetzel was born on December 26th, 1889 in Chester, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA.1 Horace Wetzel's father was James Wright Shipley and his mother was Lillian Lee Jameson. His paternal grandparents were Nathan Pascal SHIPLEY and Elizabeth Mildred LESTER. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Ernest Ramon, Onan Slaton, Cecil Jefferson, James Wright, Woodie Belle and Grace Thirsaline. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He had a half-sister named Lillian Mae. He died at the age of 76 on March 30th, 1966 in Alma, Crawford County, Arkansas, USA. HORACE W. SHIPLEY
Horace W. Shipley, 76 years old, 217 Fayetteville Street, Van Buren, died Wednesday, March 30, 1966 in a local hospital. He was a native of Crawford county and a member of First Baptist Church. He was a Baptist minister for 44 years and organized nine churches during that time, one of which is the Plainview Missionary Baptist church of Van Buren.
Survivors are his wife, a son, two daughters, two brothers, a sister, nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the First Free Will Baptist church in Fort Smith with Silas Haley officiating, assisted by Rupert Pixley. Burial in Gill cemetery was under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
