James Amos was born on June 2nd, 1887 in Pikeville, Bledsoe Co, TN.  James Amos' father was Rev. Simon Dillard Simmons and his mother was Mary Lucinda Lawson.  His paternal grandparents were Zachariah Thomas Simmons and Mary Louisa Dodson. He had seven brothers and five sisters, named Isaac Clinton, Lewis Dillard, William Austin, Jacob Z. T., Simon, Fredrick Moulton, Samuel Litton, Hettie Jane, Margaret Lou, Stacy Hortense, Winnie 'Willie' E. and Eliza Mae.  He was the sixth youngest of the thirteen children. He had two half-sisters named Essie and Lema D..  He died at the age of 73 on March 12th, 1961.  He was buried in Blackburn Cemetery, Bledsoe Co, TN.
