Marion was born in 1826 in Henderson Co, TN.  Marion's father was Thomas Cary and his mother was Elizabeth Roberts.  His maternal grandparents were Abner Roberts and Winnifred Bonner. He had seven brothers named Samuel Harrison, William W., Michael, James Moses, Green, Thomas C. and Reubin Caps.  He was the second youngest of the eight children.
