Green was born in 1824 in Henderson Co, TN.  Green's father was Thomas Cary and his mother was Elizabeth Roberts.  His maternal grandparents were Abner Roberts and Winnifred Bonner. He had seven brothers named Samuel Harrison, William W., Michael, James Moses, Thomas C., Marion and Reubin Caps.  He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 56 in 1880.
