Alestra's father was Morgund mac Gylocher 2nd Earl of Mar and her mother was Countess of Mar Agnes. Her paternal grandparents were Earl Gillocher of Mar and <Unknown>. She had seven brothers named Malcolm, James, Duncan, Donald, David, John and Gilchrist.
