William John's father was George Skeldon and his mother was Sarah Moore. His paternal grandparents were Adam Skeldon and Mary Jane Chalmers. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Charles Samuel Deneen, Claussen, Darius, David Abram, George Adam, Roy Chalmers, Emma Jane, Genevieve Mary "Pidge" and Orena Mae "Sis".
