Josiah Owen 
Josiah was born in Hebron, CT.1 Josiah's father was Josiah Owen and his mother was Mary Hosford. His paternal grandparents were Josiah Owen and Mary Osborn; his maternal grandparents were John Hosford and Phillury Thrall. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Asahel, Noah, Isaac, Amos, Silas, Mary, Martha and Anne. He died on October 18th, 1756 in Fort William Henry.1 General Notes

FOURTH GENERATION
Josiah Owen III [4] (Josiah II [3], Josiah [2], John [1]), son of Josiah II and Mary (Hosford) Owen, was born at Hebron March 17, 1716.
He married (1) on January 28, 1741/42, Hannah White, daughter of Ebenezer and Hannah (Doggett) White, who was descended from Peregine White first native-born New Englander, --born on the Mayflower. She died on April 28, 1747.
He married (2) Zerviah Hartshorn, daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Birchard) Hartshorne, who was born at Norwich, CT, January 27, 1720. She was first married January 4, 1742 to Samuel Robbards; they had one child, Zerviah, born October 6, 1743; Samuel died August 29, 1746. On May 25, 1749 she was married to to Josiah Owen. They had three children. After Josiah Owen's death, she was married to ........ Byington.
Josiah Owen served in the French and Indian War. At this time the valley of Lake George and Lake Champlain was the natural highway through which the French could attack the English Colonies. No other region in America has seen more terrible fighting. The British erected three forts near the head of Lake George, - Fort William Henry, Fort Gage, and Fort George.
On April 8, 1756 Josiah Owen III enlisted as a private in Captain Noah Grant's company, Col. David Wooster's (7th) Conn. Regiment. The company comprised 75 men. It was sent to Fort William Henry. In July 1757 Montcalm and his Indian allies attacked the fort. The English surrendered. The next day Montcalm's Indian allies masacred 1000 English, men, women, and children. Josiah Owen escaped their fate, for he died at the Fort on October 18, 1756.
The widow Zerviah was appointed administratrix of Josiah Owen III's estate.
