Good morning Velma,
I’m looking for descendents of the William House and Amanda House that
are buried in the Osborn cemetery in Joplin , MO. The family tree I’m
working on is for Robert Benjamin Dalton and Dora Dalton. There are 5
people buried in the Dalton plot. I’m hoping by find descendents of
the House’s maybe I can find more on the Daltons .

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated
---
Thank you for your response. I’m trying to find information on William
and Amanda House because they’re buried with Robert Benjamin Dalton and
Dora Dalton. I am looking for information on the Daltons .
---
Possibly the Dora Evans who is listed in the 1910 census as step dau to
William remarried to a Dalton . I will see if my cousin has more info.
That’s a possibility I hadn’t thought of.
---
Give me the vital info on Robert Benjamin Dalton and i will do a quick
search on Ancestry.com It is automatic as I have the whole subscription.
Glad to do it.
Thank you. I will do that on Monday. I don’t have it with me today. I
have searched Ancestry at the library because I can get it free there,
but you sound much better at getting information than I am.

Thank you for your help, talk to you soon.

I found an old e-mail with the information. Who I’m looking for is:
Robert Benjamin Dalton.
Born 7-25-1893
Died 5-2-1961

He married Dora Gay Milford who was born in Mammoth Springs , Arkansas .
They are both buried in Osborn cemetery. If they were descendents of
the Dalton gang, they may have hid from census takers. I can’t
find his siblings.
Thanks again

Take a look at the information below and see if you think he married
Dora Gay Milford, unless Dora Evens was married to a Milford before
she married a Dalton , someone is wrong.

Let me know what you think.

Oh my, you are good.

I know the information for the 1930 census is correct because Rob’s
grandfather was Theodore. You list the correct siblings and parents.
I know that Dora was married before and Dixie was one of her
daughters and Robert Benjamin Dalton adopted her. I have a copy
of the draft card and that information is correct. Robert was an
electrician. I don’t know how the rest fits in.

I was looking at this a little closer. In the 1920 census for William
H Evens it says step son. Since he was 12 he would be born in 1908.

\In looking at the 1910 census it says William H Evens granddaughter.
She was 2 so would be born in 1908.
Things that make you go hummmmm
I’ve been working on this for 2 years and in one day you’ve found
more information.

What if William House married Amanda House and is the step father of
Dora. Dora marries Mr. Evans and has Dixie/Lenora and William.
Mr. Evans dies and she married Robert Benjamin Dalton.
That would explain who’se buried there. It doesn’t help me find
Robert Benjamin Dalton’s siblings or parents information but it
does answer some questions. I’m pretty sure the first 1910 Census
with Hannah is another family. I think all the rest of your
information is ours.
Thanks again

Amanda was buried 6-8-1961

Dora Dalton (her maiden name was Milford ) She was born in Mammoth Springs , Arkansas 7-12-1889. I think it’s a different Dora but I’m not sure. As you say, things get changed by census takers.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I see no reason that in the Dalton Plot that William and Amanda would be buried there unless there was some relationship. Therefore I believe that Amanda and Dora are mother and daughter. Look at the 1910 Census for William & Amanda, they have only been married for 1 year and both have been married before. Amanda was married to Myers before as evidenced by son Albertus in the 1910 census. Amanda had 4 children 2 living which is Dora and Albertus. Dora has married Evens at age 15 she is now 20 with two children.
The World War I Draft Registration Cards says Robert is married with 3 children. Which would be Edna Dalton and Dixon and William Evens.
1920 census shows the 5 person family.
1930 census shows Dora's was married at age 15(Which doesn't mean she was married to Robert at 15) Her 2 children gone and they have another whole family with Edna the oldest.
I don't know if you realize that people lied about ages, where they were born etc to the census people cause they thought it was not the business of government to know. Also some of the census takers were not too well educated so they spelled names wrong plus their handwriting was not too good sometimes, also 3 people can transcribe a census and all will be different as we are all subject to mistakes.
I just found another House family which is prob Williams bro family, same place as Williams family in 1910. Will have to figure out for sure if this is the right House family if you believe it is not. The age for Robert is right as compared to his W W I draft card, also the 1920 census.

Really frustrating to look for 2 years and have someone find so much in one day. Glad I could do it. I have pretty good luck searching sometimes. You just have to go with your gut feeling. Fills in some blanks for me too. Anything you would like to share, I will be glad to have.
Enjoy,Velma
--------------------------------------------------------
Velma,
I know you’re right about the House’s being related. I called the cemetery and Robert Benjamin Dalton bought 5 spaces in his plot. I don’t know if I will ever find out if he had siblings or information about his parents or how they’re related to the Dalton gang. Rob was always told there was a connection. I wish he could afford to do the DNA test. That would prove for sure. Robert Benjamin Dalton said he ran away from home at age 13. He wouldn’t talk about his past. I have talked to Glen Johnson in Sarcoxie who was descended from Edna Dalton and they can’t figure it out either.
Any help you can give me would be appreciated.
----------------------------------------------------------
Velma,

I did a people search for House in Webb City . There are 2. I’m sending them letters today. If they are descendents of Dorsey, maybe the know something.

He was a member of Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local no 53. His wife, Mrs. Dora Dalton died June 2, 1958.
I guess if I would have gone back and re-read Dora’s obit I would have know the link between her and the House’s. It was buried in my paperwork and I didn’t make the connection until now.
Rob’s grandfather was Theodore. James A. Dalton is still alive but he’s had a stroke and can’t help. Mrs. Glen Johnson lives in Sarvoxie and I have corresponded with her. She’s as puzzled as I am about the family history.
