Phanael Gruesbeck 
Phanael was born in March 1840 in Chatfield, Crawford County, Ohio. Phanael's father was Ira Gruesbeck and his mother was Rebecca Hillard. His maternal grandparents were Peris Hillard and Clarrisa Kimball. He has two brothers and two sisters, named Perry, Ira Daniel, Abigail and Clarissa. He is the oldest of the five children. He had four half-brothers named James H., Stephen Douglas, Charles and Franklin.-
