Samuel Hayward 
Samuel was born on January 4th, 1642 in Mendon, MA. Samuel's father was William Hayward and his mother was Margery Knight. His paternal grandfather is John William Hayward; his maternal grandfather was Thomas Knight and his maternal grandmother is Margery Thayer. He was an only child. He died at the age of 71 on July 29th, 1713 in Mendon, MA.General Notes
In 1671 , he bought twenty acres in Mendon, MA, for which he paid ten poun
ds.He was a housewright or carpenter, and in 1680 made an agreement with t
he selectmen of Mendon to begin and manage the frame of a meeting house tw
enty-six feetin length and twenty-five feet in width, a girt house fourte
en feet between joists. He was to have three shillings a day and a cow a
nd a calf as partof hispay. The first meeting house had been destroy
ed by the Indians in 1676. In 1693 he was chosen one of the first three T
ythingmen of Mendon, and in1692 was one of the selectmen. He was an orig
inal proprietor of Mendon, butleft at thetime of King Phillip's War, a
nd returned with others in 1677 after the close of the war.
