Gronwy was born in 1226 in Trecastell, Llangoed, Anglesey, Wales. Gronwy's father was Gronwy Ap Edynfed and his mother was Morfudd Verch Meurig. His paternal grandparents were Ednyfed Fychan Ap Kendrig and Gwenllian Verch Rhys; his maternal grandfather is Meuric Ap Unknown. He was an only child. He died at the age of 71 in 1297 in Cibwr, Senghennydd, Glamorganshire, Wales.-
