Henry II was born in 1267 in Riga, Vidzeme, Latvia.  Henry II's father was Heinrich I zu Mecklenburg and his mother was Anastasia Pomerania.  His paternal grandparents were Johann I Mecklenburg and Luitgard Henneberg; his maternal grandparents were Barnim I Pomerania and Marianna of Sweden. He had a brother and a sister, named Johann III and Luitgard.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died in Neubrandenburg, Mecklenburg-Strlt, Germany.
