Lester was born in 1894 in New York.1 Lester's father was Francis Joseph (Frank) Shields and his mother was Anna Margaret (Annie) Albert. His paternal grandparents were Andrew Sylvester Shields and Anna *unknown Mrs. Duffey; his maternal grandparents were Johan Albert Jr. and Mary Weniger. He had seven brothers and a sister, named Frank, Edward, Jim?, John Frank, Tony?, Bill, Arthur Merritt and Lillian. He is the third oldest of the nine children.General Notes
