Katherine was born in 1195 in Wycombe,Buckinghamshire,England. Katherine's father was Lord, Baron of Wycombe Alan Basset and her mother is Aline de Gai. Her paternal grandfather was Thomas Basset and her paternal grandmother is Alice Dunstanville; her maternal grandfather is Philip de Gai. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Phillip, Faulk, Gilbert, William, Thomas, Hawise, Aline and Alice. She is the second youngest of the nine children.-
