Tore or Thore was born in 1796 in , Storen, Sor-Trondelag, Norway. Tore or Thore's father was Bersvend Jensen and his mother was Ingeborg Johansdatter. His paternal grandfather was Jens Larssen and his paternal grandmother is Dordi Evensdatter; his maternal grandparents were Johan Elevsen and Enge Knutsdatter. He had three brothers and a sister, named Jens, Johan, Even and Ingeborg. He is the second youngest of the five children.-
