Ermengarde of was born in 0800 in Alsace, Lorraine, France.1 Ermengarde of's father was 'The Abbot' Count of Tours Hugh II and her mother was Ava Countess of Upper Alsace. Her paternal grandfather was Count Luitfride II Count of Upper Alsace and her paternal grandmother is Countess of Upper Alsace Hiltrude; her maternal grandparents were Duke of Hesbaye Ingeramne, Duke of Hesbaye and Judith of Bavaria. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Count of Bourges, Luitfried III Count of Upper, Bertha of, , Holy Roman Empress Queen of Italy and Adelaide of. She was the third youngest of the six children. She was buried in Erstein Abbey, Strasbourg.1 1 General Notes
