Sigurd I Riki Eysteinsson Of was born about 0852 in Maer, Nord-Trondelag, Norway. Sigurd I Riki Eysteinsson Of's father was "Glumra" Ivarson Eystein and his mother was Aseda Rognvaldsdatter. His paternal grandparents were "Oplaendinge" Halfdansson Ivar and Nn Of Trondheim; his maternal grandfather was Rognvald Olafsson and his maternal grandmother is Thora Sigurdsdatter. He had four brothers and two sisters, named The wise, Malahule (Haldrick) Eysteinsson Of, Mahulc of, Turstan, Svanhilde and Schwanhilde Of. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died about 0892 in Orkney Islands, Scotland (of blood poisoning).General Notes
Sigurd I Riki, the Mighty, received the Earldom of Orkney and Shetland
(the Nordreys) from his brother and was confirmed as Jarl by the King
Harald Haarfagri circa Spring 875. In alliance with Thorstein the Red he
conquered what isnow Caithness and Sutherland and parts of Ross and
Moray. Circa 892 he defeated Maelbrigte Tooth "the Scottish Earl" (?
Mormaer of Moray) and cut off hishead. He died of bloodpoisoning from
the wound caused by Maelbrigte’s toothas the head dangled by Sigurd’s
knee, circa 892, and was buried at Sydero onthe Dornoch Firth at the
estuary of the Ekkialsbakki. The name of his wife isnot recorded.
